Sales & Marketing

Pricing
MALAYSIA
Most of the adhesives are sold directly to end user or retailer but a few using distributors. As for pricing, for example, one piece of windscreen sealant is sold at RM 7 to local workshops.

Distribution Channels
USA
An increasing amount of adhesives is being sold through distributors and many adhesives companies have begun to outsource portions of their production to manufacturers. Distributors and manufacturers have limited in-house adhesive expertise and testing facilities. Adhesives are critical to the performance of many products and manufacturers need to carefully evaluate the suitability of adhesives for their applications and to monitor the quality of the adhesives they purchase.

Competition
In the implementation of AFTA, fierce competition is expected. Currently, there are strong competitions from Thailand, China, USA and Germany in the domestic market. For international markets, the major players are as shown in the tables below:

Prospects
The issues facing adhesives companies today are common to many facets of the manufacturing world. Globalization, pricing pressure, tougher environmental regulations and continual customer requests to do it better, faster and cheaper is a situation faced by an adhesives and sealant manufacturers worldwide. According to industry source, trends of globalisation and industry consolidation throughout the value chain – from raw material supplier to retailers – as well as environmental awareness and increasing demand for high-speed production of high performance products, are daily influenced in the operations and crafting of business strategies.

Testing

NR Latex-based masking paper adhesive test A strip of adhesive tape is bonded to stainless steel plate (1.9" X 7.8"), which has been cleaned with acetone, by rolling the tape on to the surface with a weight of 2.05kg in accordance with the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC). For each testpiece, the peel strength at 180º angle (PSTC-1) is measured by pulling the tape back on itself at 300mm/min using an Instron Tensile Tester (Model 5564) under ambient conditions. Five or more testpieces for each type of joint are tested to obtain an average value of the peel strength of the joint.

Typical peel strength values for general purpose (GP) and heat-resistant (HR) masking paper tapes are as follows:

Sample
Peel Strength (N/m)
GP
390
HR
330
