Testing
Overlap Shear Adhesion Test
Formica-plywood adhesive joints are prepared from
rectangular strips (1"x5") of Formica and plywood by coating their
surfaces (1"x1") at one end with these contact adhesives, and pressing
the dry coated surfaces together with hand pressure. The bonded testpieces
are stored under room conditions for four days before pulling these
overlap shear joints apart at 50 mm/min in the Instron tensile testing
machine to determine their shear strengths.
Peel Adhesion Test
Pvc-plywood adhesive
joints are prepared from rectangular strips (1" x 5") of pvc (sandpaper-buffed
and acetone-wiped) and plywood by coating their surfaces (1" x 4")
with contact adhesive, and pressing the dry coated surfaces together
by rolling the pvc on to the plywood with a weight of 2.05 kg. The
bonded testpieces are stored under room conditions overnight before
pulling these joints apart at 100 mm/min in the Instron tensile testing
machine to determine their 180 peel strengths.
